Accredited investor status in Singapore: a gateway to exclusive opportunities
September 01, 2024
At Arta, we’re focused on giving more people access to wealth-building avenues traditionally reserved for the ultra-wealthy, including smoother access to exclusive private market investments and more sophisticated strategies for investing in public markets.
Certain individuals, based on their total assets, financial knowledge, or income, may qualify for an investor status that unlocks broader investment opportunities. This accredited investor status allows them to participate in investments like private equity, real estate, private credit, venture capital, and even foreign direct investments. While these investments often carry different liquidity and risk profiles, they offer potential advantages like greater diversification, potentially higher returns, and exposure to sectors or markets less accessible through traditional channels.
If you have questions about what an accredited investor means if you invest through Arta, we can always walk you through the product and familiarize you with what it is like. We know many existing Arta members have safely navigated the upgrade to accredited investor status, and we’d be happy to help you step up as well.
What’s an accredited investor, and do you qualify?
Here’s everything you need to know.
Being an accredited investor simply means you're in a position of financial stability to handle the risks of certain investments.
To qualify as an accredited investor in Singapore, you must meet certain financial thresholds that signal a higher level of sophistication, either in terms of income, net worth, or assets. The specific requirements can vary by country or jurisdiction.
In Singapore, according to the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), to qualify as an accredited investor, you must meet at least one of the following conditions:
Have net personal assets exceeding SGD 2 million or its equivalent in foreign currencies (with primary residence capped at 50% of the threshold)
Have an Annual income of SGD 300,000 or more over the last 12 months
Have financial assets exceeding SGD 1 million
Hold a joint account with an Accredited Investor, in respect of dealings through that joint account
For investors who qualify as an accredited investor in Singapore, investment options grow substantially.
With the accredited investor status you gain access to exclusive financial products and services through Arta including:
Exclusive private investments in potentially high-growth private equity and early-stage startups
More sophisticated strategies, such as hedge funds or venture capital investments
Increased diversification through private equity, real estate funds, and other private markets assets often unavailable to retail investors
For those looking to diversify beyond traditional stocks and ETFs, the accredited investor status provides access and choice. It’s your gateway to empowered investing - helping you unlock opportunities tailored to your goals.

While becoming an accredited investor unlocks exciting opportunities, as with any new venture, there are important factors to consider. Examples include:
Varied liquidity and investment minimums: Asset classes available to accredited investors like private equity, venture capital, and private credit come with varying degrees of liquidity and entry requirements. For example, private equity can offer higher growth opportunities but typically requires a longer lock-up period and higher minimum investments compared to public equities.
Customizable and sophisticated options: Accredited investors gain access to advanced strategies that go beyond retail investment vehicles, enabling more tailored, diversified, and strategic portfolio construction. For example, certain structured products could offer customizable investments tied to multiple asset classes, which provide downside protection while enabling participation in market gains under specific conditions.
Differing regulatory frameworks: Some securities, like private equity or venture capital funds, are exempt from offering full prospectuses to regulators like the MAS (Monetary Authority of Singapore). This can offer flexibility but also means fewer investor protections compared to publicly traded securities.
At Arta Finance, we’re here to ensure you don’t face these decisions alone. Our carefully curated approach helps you navigate the complexity of these opportunities, equipping you with the insights you need to make informed, confident decisions. And when you need guidance, our team of experts is here to support you - helping you find investments that align with your risk tolerance, financial goals, and long-term strategy.
Becoming an accredited investor is a milestone that can fundamentally level-up your investing.
